Challenge

The Digitalising Energy Flexibility project was a 12-month discovery programme exploring the future of the energy system in 2035 and what infrastructure and innovations will be needed to support that transition.

The discovery programme set out the business case for a five year £50m national investment programme into supporting the digital transformation of the energy sector to support future network planning, digitalisation and net zero objectives, aligned with NESO and Ofgem objectives.

Our Role & Impact

Working in collaboration with Digital Catapult (DC) and Energy Systems Catapult (ESC), we provided strategic guidance and technology expertise in guiding the development of the concept and programme design. We developed the interim funding presentation to secure the next stage of funding to continue the discovery programme from Innovate UK.

This built upon recent work with ESC exploring the adoption risks and mitigations of AI in the energy sector, alongside deep expertise in IUK CR&D bid proposals and UK Government energy and net zero policy.
