Challenge

COVID-19 changed daily life for people around the world and

required that cities do more with fewer resources than ever before. Yet, even in the face of a public health crisis, social unrest, massive budget shortfalls, and mounting climate disasters, mayors are innovating and taking bold steps to tackle their cities’ most pressing challenges.

Our Role & Impact

I helped facilitate design and innovation workshops with C-suite city leaders for the Bloomberg Global Mayors Challenge. We nurtured relationships with city innovation teams, and mentored a range of people with differing levels of expertise, knowledge and experience of public sector design and innovation to identify, scope and define their urban challenge(s) and develop innovative solutions in response to them.

The 2021 Global Mayors Challenge was the farthest reaching, most ambitious to date. After uncovering the 50 most innovative urban solutions in the wake of COVID-19, the Challenge went on to award 15 grand prize winners $1 million each, to help cities implement their breakthrough ideas and, ultimately, to spread those ideas to other cities on a global scale.

As a result of his leadership and coaching, we were able to define our strategic priorities and response in a way that hadn’t been possible before.
